nomen cuiusdam apud Inferos, quem effinxerunt perpetuo torquentem funem, astante asellâ; quae quantum ille torsisset, statim praeroderet. Inde proverbium, Ocnus funiculum torquet: quod cum in eos omnes competat, qui non profuturam in re aliqua operam collocant, tum in eos praecipue quadrat, qui cum nihil neque laboris, neque industriae ad augendam rem familiarem praetermittant, nihilo tamen redduntur ditiores; quod domi habeant asellam, hoc est, uxorem prodigam, quae quicquid misellus multis sudoribus corrasit, strenue profundit. Atqui verba ipsa, quae adducit ex Plutarcho (sunt autem ea l. περὶ ἐυθυμίας) solvunt dubium, cum dicat: ὅτι ὁ χοινοπλόκος παρίησι τὸν χοῖνον καταφάγεςθαι, et senex ille sinat ab asino funem depasci, neque abigat.
